Crucible Furnace Manufacturer in India for Aluminium Melting

Furnaces

Therm process Engineering Pvt. Ltd. designs and supplies crucible furnaces for melting aluminium. In a crucible furnace, the metal is held in a refractory crucible that sits inside a burner-fired chamber. Heat reaches the metal through the crucible wall, so the flame never touches the melt. Therm process crucible furnaces are fitted with burners designed and built in-house. This lets the combustion system be matched to the crucible size and the foundry's fuel. Share your crucible size, alloy and melting schedule for a recommendation.

What Is a Crucible Furnace?

A crucible furnace is a melting furnace in which the metal is contained in a crucible. The crucible is a pot made of clay-graphite, silicon carbide or a similar refractory material. It sits inside an insulated furnace body. A burner fires into the space around the crucible, heating the pot, which in turn melts the metal inside.

Because the melt is separated from the flame and combustion gases, a crucible furnace reduces direct flame contact with the metal. It is simple to operate and makes alloy changes easy: switch or clean the crucible between alloys.

Crucible furnaces are the typical choice for smaller melt quantities, frequent alloy changes and job foundries, where a large reverberatory or tower furnace would be oversized. The same design can serve as a holding furnace beside a die-casting machine, keeping metal at pouring temperature.

Therm process Crucible Furnaces

Therm process designs and supplies crucible furnaces for aluminium melting. Each furnace is supplied with in-house Therm process burners. The company manufactures gas burners (LPG, CNG, PRG, CBM, Bio-CNG), oil burners (LDO, FO, HSD, LSHS) and dual-fuel burners, so the burner can be selected to suit the foundry's fuel supply.

Combustion air comes from Therm process combustion blowers. Burner flow can be set with Therm process limiting orifice valves or ratio regulators, depending on the fuel.

For higher melt rates or continuous die-casting supply, Therm process also offers tilting, tower and stationary aluminium melting and holding furnaces.

Key Features

  • Indirect heating The flame heats the crucible, not the metal surface.
  • In-house burner Combustion system matched to the chamber and fuel.
  • Multi-fuel options Gas, oil or dual fuel.
  • Simple operation Suitable for smaller foundries and job shops.
  • Easy alloy changes Change or clean the crucible between alloys.
  • Can serve as a holding furnace at the casting station.
  • How a Crucible Furnace Works

    • Charging Aluminium ingots or clean returns are placed in the crucible.
    • Firing The burner fires tangentially or into the annular space around the crucible.
    • Melting Heat conducts through the crucible wall and the charge melts.
    • Treatment Fluxing, degassing and drossing are carried out as per foundry practice.
    • Pouring Metal is ladled out, poured by tilting, or the crucible is lifted out, depending on the design.
    • Recharging or holding The cycle repeats, or the furnace holds metal at pouring temperature.

    Applications of Crucible Furnaces

    • Aluminium melting for gravity and sand casting.
    • Holding metal beside die-casting machines.
    • Job foundries with multiple alloys.
    • Small-batch and prototype casting.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is a crucible furnace used for?
A crucible furnace is used to melt and hold non-ferrous metals such as aluminium in a refractory crucible. Therm process crucible furnaces are designed for aluminium melting.
Q2. How does a crucible furnace work?
A burner heats the chamber around the crucible. Heat passes through the crucible wall and melts the metal inside, so the flame does not contact the melt directly.
Q3. What fuels can a Therm process crucible furnace use?
Therm process manufactures gas, oil and dual-fuel burners. The crucible furnace burner is selected according to the fuel available at your foundry.
Q4. When should I choose a crucible furnace over a larger melting furnace?
Crucible furnaces suit smaller melt quantities, frequent alloy changes and holding at the casting machine. For high continuous melt rates, a tilting, tower or stationary melting furnace is usually better.
Q5. What information is needed for a quotation?
Share the alloy, metal quantity per melt, melts per shift, melting or holding duty, pouring method, fuel and casting process.
