Therm process Engineering Pvt. Ltd. manufactures multi-strand annealers for stainless steel fine wire. Wire from 0.5 to 6 mm diameter runs continuously through the furnace in 16, 20, 30 or 40 parallel strands. It is annealed at 850-1050°C under a protective atmosphere from a cracked ammonia feed. Fine-wire output ranges from 14 to 60 kg/hr. Electric versions use Kanthal A1 or Ni-Cr 80/20 elements with PID and thyristor control, and gas-fired versions run on LPG, PNG or coal gas. What Is an SS Fine Wire Strand Annealer?
Drawing stainless steel wire to fine gauges hardens it heavily. Before the wire can be drawn further, or sold soft, it must be annealed. For fine wire, this is best done continuously: the wire is unwound, pulled through a heated tube or muffle, and rewound.
Running many strands side by side lets a single furnace handle meaningful tonnage. Fine wire has little mass per metre and throughput per strand is low, so the number of strands is what drives capacity.
Stainless steel oxidises readily at annealing temperature. For a bright, oxide-free surface, the wire is heated and cooled in a reducing protective atmosphere. Cracked (dissociated) ammonia, a hydrogen-nitrogen mixture, is a common choice. The result is soft, bright wire ready for further drawing or final use without pickling.
Therm process SS Fine Wire Strand Annealer
Therm process builds its fine wire annealers on the same platform as its strand annealer range, with features specific to fine wire:
- Multi-strand configurations: 16, 20, 30 or 40 strands.
- Wire range: 0.5 to 6 mm diameter.
- Heating options Electric, with Kanthal A1 or Ni-Cr 80/20 heating elements; or gas fired on LPG, PNG or coal gas.
- Temperature control: automatic control through PID controllers and thyristor power regulation, for close control of element power.
- Atmosphere: cracked ammonia feeding arrangement for bright annealing.
- Insulation: an improved insulation pattern to reduce heat loss.
- Low maintenance: designed for maintenance-free operation.
- Material loading: about 1 tonne.
The broader strand annealer range uses low watt density elements for long element life, and a fibre-and-brick insulation combination.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is an SS fine wire strand annealer?
It is a continuous furnace that anneals many strands of stainless steel fine wire at once. The wire is heated and cooled under protective atmosphere, leaving it soft and bright.
Q2. What wire sizes can it anneal?
Therm process fine wire annealers handle wire from 0.5 to 6 mm diameter.
Q3. How many strands are available?
Configurations with 16, 20, 30 or 40 strands are available.
Q4. Why is cracked ammonia used?
Cracked ammonia provides a hydrogen-nitrogen protective atmosphere. It prevents oxidation of stainless steel at annealing temperature, so the wire comes out bright.
Q5. What heating elements are used?
Electrically heated versions use Kanthal A1 or Ni-Cr 80/20 elements, with automatic PID and thyristor temperature control.
